The Qatar World Cup in 2022 has opened. This is the first time that the World Cup will be held in a Middle East country. This World Cup will receive 1.2 million tourists from all over the world, so the hotel price will soar 8 times!
A few days ago, I introduced the stadium design of Qatar to you. Today, we will go to see what special hotels there are.
01·Qatar Ecological Floating Hotel
Designer: Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio (HADDS)
The Eco Floating Hotel, located on the coast of Qatar, is a four story, 125 room hotel. The design scheme aims to minimize energy loss and follow the principle of zero waste. The scheme includes a rotating system that can move the building to generate electric energy.
The architectural form and operation inspiration of the ecological floating hotel come from the sea, especially the vortex. A stationary dock and a revolving round hotel can rotate continuously for one circle within 24 hours. The hotel has three different entrances that can be accessed from the coast thanks to the 140 degree dock surrounding it.
The rotating system adopts dynamic positioning (Dp), which is a computer controlled system to automatically maintain the position of the ship. The goal of the design team of Haads is to design an "ecological balance" project. Their design team has integrated a green energy production system called vawtau, vertical axis wind turbine and umbrella.
In addition to producing green energy, the hotel also integrates rainwater collection function. The whirlpool roof collects rainwater and treats sewage to irrigate the hotel green space. Purify sea water to obtain clean water, and treat wastewater to avoid harm to the environment. HAADS also plans to develop waste sorting devices to convert food waste into fertilizer for landscaping.
All platforms of the hotel, including the connection with the mainland, are floating platforms. HAADS plans to transfer the hotel to other areas through this mobile plan. It plans to set its first stop in the coastal waters of Qatar.
After the initial conceptual process, HADDS said that the next stage is to continue feasibility and technical research to achieve the implementation stage. Although there is no exact completion date, the multidisciplinary team's goal is 2025.
The hotel has three different entrances that can be accessed from the coast thanks to the 140 degree dock surrounding it. The guest rooms and outdoor activity area are built around the lobby in a circle, and the wharf and helicopter are separated on both sides. Overlooking from the air, there is only one airstrip connected with the land, and the guest rooms and public spaces are built facing the sea. Guests can log in the hotel by yacht or helicopter, which has a high degree of privacy.
Such a cool hotel can not only float on the sea, but also rotate, which naturally hides secrets.
The architect invited experts from different fields to participate in the design, including ship building engineers and ship architects. A group of propellers and thrusters are equipped under the waterline to drive the rotation. The flowing water energy generated by automatic rotation is converted into electric energy for daily use. So, to some extent, this hotel is a self-sufficient circular cruise ship.
The five-star hotel has a building area of 35000 square meters, and 125 rooms have private terraces. The lobby roof is transparent, reflecting the sky into the hotel. Surrounded by green plants, it feels like going deep into the jungle. I can't help taking a deep breath.
Moreover, all the seemingly beautiful designs are different. For example, the sunshade beside the swimming pool is actually a wind turbine.
The giant funnel roof not only brings a sense of future, but also can collect rainwater for indoor green plants. While saving energy, it increases the flexibility of indoor space. Other environmental protection measures include systems to convert food waste into garden fertilizer and wastewater treatment equipment.
Aesthetics, technology and environmental protection are all perfectly integrated in this hotel. Such an advanced idea may drive the trend of future architectural development, which is amazing in the creativity of designers.

Banyan Tree Hotel Doha has opened in April 2021, which is the first time Banyan Tree Hotel has settled in Doha. It is carefully designed by the famous interior designer Jacques Garcia.
