The 2022 German International Aluminium Exhibition was held in Dusseldorf from September 27-29. Reed Exhibitions Group, the organizer, released a post exhibition report. This year's world leading aluminum trade fair attracted 20400 visitors from 100 countries. This is the first exhibition after the interruption of the epidemic for four years, which has exceeded the expectations before the exhibition.
In the past, aluminum was and will always be the key material to support the climate neutral strategy and improve resource efficiency, but at present, the construction industry is striving to address major challenges related to energy prices, supply security and supply. Even so, 730 exhibitors from 50 countries also demonstrated the huge development potential of this material and the entire industry at the aluminum exhibition.
Barbara Leithner, CEO of Reed Exhibitions Austria and Germany, the organizers, said: "The 2022 Aluminum Expo has exceeded our expectations. The more challenging the times are, the more important the communication and solidarity within the industry will be. Under the current framework, the 2022 Aluminum Expo is undoubtedly the most important communication event in the aluminum industry, which plays the same role as each exhibition in its 25 year history."
At present, people in the aluminum industry are both worried about the severe situation and hopeful about the future. These two emotions are intertwined. Obviously, the rapidly rising energy cost has become a major threat to the aluminum industry. "The situation is very serious," said Rob van Gils, president of the German Aluminum Association, when describing the situation of the aluminum industry in Europe. He further stressed: "The crazy energy situation is threatening our competitiveness. This is also a problem that the entire industry itself cannot solve. So we need political support and more effective solutions. At present, we must put supply security first."
Paul Voss, Director General of the European Aluminum Association, also expressed the same view: "We need to take short-term measures to stop 'bleeding' and a system that allows the industry to provide the required energy at a price acceptable to the industry. I do not mean our previous price, but the price we can accept."
Walk on the road to a climate neutral society
Robert Habeck, Minister of Economy and Climate Protection of Germany, said in his video speech at the opening ceremony of the aluminum exhibition: "Germany intends to retain energy intensive industries such as the aluminum industry in Germany by means of" aid and price braking ". Reducing energy prices will require huge investment and cost a lot of money; But if it helps to protect the essence of German industry, it is good investment. "
The economy, industry Mona Neubaur, Minister of Climate Protection and Energy, stressed the importance of aluminum industry in his video speech at the opening ceremony of the aluminum exhibition: "Aluminum can be considered as the driving force for the transformation towards a climate neutral society and industry. The next five years will determine whether the transformation of the industry will succeed. It is crucial that we ensure extensive investment in technology and infrastructure to ensure security and competitiveness. The next investment cycle must be used for the transformation of the industry."
Paul Voss, Director General of the European Aluminum Association, made it clear that the aluminum industry is preparing to do so. He summarized the current positive attitude of the European aluminum industry: "I saw at the exhibition that people are still preparing for a bright future, rather than trying to cope with the recession. This really brings me hope and strength."
Michael Hanbne from Norberris said that the three-day aluminum trade exhibition set the tone for the accompanying multi-party dialogue. "We see that the aluminum industry presents a very open platform, which is a very high-quality dialogue opportunity. We hope to send the right signal to all stakeholders, who can continue to support the development of our industry in the short and medium term."
Sustainable development is heating up
Many aluminum exhibition exhibitors also reported the investment and major commercial transactions reached here. For example, SMS of Simak Group announced that it had signed a contract for several aluminum extrusion production lines at the exhibition, including one of the largest extrusion production lines in the world, with an extrusion force of 150MN. Tobias Brune of the company said: "Our customer from Turkey is one of the first manufacturers in Europe to produce large-sized aluminum car body materials for rail vehicles, and we are very happy about this. Our customer's investment decision reflects the growth of the transportation lightweight market, and shows an obvious trend: the sustainability of infrastructure and investment are booming."
All the very popular seminars and keynote speeches during the conference also showed that mobile travel, sustainability, recycling and digital manufacturing are the main topics of the whole industry in the future. The aluminum seminar organized by the German Aluminum Association was held in the central area of the exhibition hall for the first time. In addition, the two special conference areas on "sustainability and recycling" and "additive and digital manufacturing" also attracted many audiences.
Face to face successful communication and cooperation
In addition to knowledge exchange, personnel exchange is more important. Yavuz Arkun from Assan Aluminum in Turkey said: "The most important thing is to care about your customers, understand their needs, establish good relations and jointly shape the future. A trade fair like Aluminum Expo is an opportunity to meet face to face. It really brings us happiness and benefits us."
Ilias Papadopoulos from Trimet Aluminum, a German company, thinks that the 2022 aluminum exhibition is very successful: "This is at the right time, in the right place, facing the right partners -- our customers and suppliers. We really had a fruitful and in-depth discussion with the right people. We can say that this is a great success. We look forward to holding the aluminum exhibition again in 2024 and gathering again."
Reed Exhibitions announced that the next International Aluminum Exhibition (Germany) will be held on October 8, 2024. The 2023 China International Aluminum Exhibition, also held by Reed, will be held in Shanghai on July 7, 2023.
