The new terminal reflects Cambodia's long-term vision for future development, cleverly evoking a strong sense of the region. The design inspiration comes from one of the oldest civilizations on Earth, drawing on the essence of local traditional forms and fully adapting to the tropical climate, with an area of 235500 square meters.

The terminal is located 20 kilometers south of Phnom Penh city center and consists of a central main building and two wing shaped waiting corridors. The first phase of the project - the main building and the north terminal corridor - was opened to the public in September this year. The southern waiting corridor is planned to be put into use before 2030. The layout of the terminal prioritizes shortening the walking distance, maintaining clear visibility, and providing concise directional guidance, allowing passengers to easily navigate through the building. The passenger handling, security and immigration checks, and retail area are covered by a single large roof that extends from the drop off area to the airside. The modular roof is supported by structural "trees", each spanning 36 meters. The roof is wavy, reaching its climax at the center of the building, echoing Cambodia's magnificent palaces and temples.

Throughout the terminal, the inspiration for the ceiling design comes from traditional bamboo weaving techniques. The grid ceiling suspended under the lightweight steel grid structure of the building allows sunlight to gently pour into the spacious terminal space all day long. 180 skylights are cleverly distributed around the structural "tree" to deeply introduce natural light into the interior of the space while ensuring even distribution of light. The ceiling layer and the structural "tree" also integrate a warm artificial lighting system, creating a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere at night. The floor ceiling adopts a unique woven filling design, which complements the overall grid ceiling.

Green plants run through the entire terminal building along the passenger flow line, and the towering central atrium is planted with Ben Shi's Rhododendron trees, which complement the local palm trees and flowers, creating a strong sense of regional identity. The material selection is warm and friendly, interpreting the local traditional style in a modern way.
