GLA Architectural Design: An Office Building Surrounded by Orange Laces
GLA Architectural Design Company has designed the production and R&D headquarters of Shanghai Pharmaceutical Group's Zhengda Qingchun Bao in the Deqing Moganshan High tech Industrial Development Zone. In the park, the first phase is a completed production area that has been put into use. The second phase consists of production workshops and R&D headquarters office buildings, mainly producing oral and injectable products.
The project site is rectangular, with the existing Phase I on the north side and the newly built Phase II on the south side. In the original planning scheme, the production department and R&D department were independent of each other, and workshops A and B, as well as the R&D office building, were also arranged separately. In the revised planning scheme, the original B workshop was relocated to form a "L" - shaped complex with the A workshop, and combined with the newly built R&D office building to form a double "L" - shaped semi enclosed layout. The adjusted planning layout has intensified the logistics flow and created more sufficient land space for the newly built R&D office building. The latest planning layout coordinates and integrates various functional areas, adjusting the scattered building blocks within the site into a large composite building with core cohesion.

The architect designed an orange exterior corridor that surrounds the building, connecting the production workshop with the R&D office building. The design of the corridor increases interaction between workshop workers and researchers, promoting collisions and communication between each other. This corridor can also serve as a meeting place in the morning and evening. During the day, the corridor can also provide a leisure and communication space for workshop workers, increasing their familiarity with each other and facilitating cooperation in their work.
The rock layer in the site is relatively shallow, and excavating the basement is costly and laborious. In this project, the designer needs to address the parking needs of over 300 vehicles. Therefore, GLA Architectural Design Studio elevated the ground floor and designed a multi-level three-dimensional garage in the elevated area. The garage is equipped with a semi open car ramp, which not only provides customers with a comfortable experience, but also effectively utilizes space and minimizes the number of ramps.
The architect has re planned and integrated the land for the production and R&D headquarters of Zhengda Qingchunbao, connecting the major functional areas in an orderly manner and adopting a vertical layout, fully demonstrating the innovative points of industrial workshop and office building design, and maximizing the user experience.
