Aidia Architecture Studio, a Mexican sports center with a hyperbolic parabolic metal shell
AIDIA Architecture Studio designed the ZanatePEC Sports Center, located in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. This is a renovation project aimed at repairing and updating old facilities. The design highlight of this project lies in the clever integration of concrete base and lightweight metal roof structure.
The project site is surrounded by fruit orchards and mountain scenery, with abundant natural resources. After the completion of the project, it provided a sports field and convenient facilities for the local football association, such as spectator stands, changing rooms, bathrooms, shops, and other facilities. The designer has re planned the venue, including a new entrance, a 400m track around the football field, a 1km circular road, a children's play area, and an aerobics activity area, injecting new vitality into the sports center.
The main space of the sports center is designed with shower rooms, storage cabinets, and changing rooms. The changing rooms are located on the ground floor and have direct access to the outdoor field. The designer designed a colonnade connecting the buffet restaurant and the public bathroom. The building's grandstand adopts a hyperbolic parabolic metal roof to expand the audience's viewing field. The grandstand can accommodate 400 spectators and also considers barrier free design. People with limited mobility can reach the audience stand through the middle escalator or side ramp.
The concrete base and lightweight metal structure roof of the sports center create a strong contrasting effect, and the designer also applied a patchwork floor finish. The white iron railings, wooden grilles on the porch, and wooden decorations on the revolving door effectively enhance the contrast effect.
▲The design highlight of the sports center is the comparison and coordination between the concrete base and the lightweight metal bending structure roof
▲The hyperbolic paraboloid's golden curved roof increases the structural rigidity of the building
▲The concrete grandstand base has become a design highlight due to the use of white gold curved handrails, which also serve to support the folding roof structure
▲The designer also considered accessible design, such as central escalators and side ramps
▲The grandstand has a wide view and can accommodate 400 spectators

▲The designer used mixed clay and light metal, inlaid wood flooring and iron railings, creating a strong contrast
