After three and a half years of expansion and renovation, Terminal 2 (T2) of Changi Airport will reopen in 2023. The goal of this renovation is to enhance the overall capacity and passenger experience of the terminal, enabling it to handle up to 90 million passengers annually. The selection of building materials also fully considers environmental factors, such as prefabricated stone sound panels and natural stone flooring, which are not only aesthetically pleasing and durable, but also comply with environmental standards.

The design inspiration for T2 comes from natural landscapes, aiming to blur the boundary between architecture and landscape. The design team hopes to create a feeling of crossing indoor landscapes through the introduction of natural elements such as vegetation, terrain, minerals, water bodies, etc. The design of walls and floors imitates the sedimentary layers of the Earth, using materials of different colors and textures to represent the natural growth of soil and vegetation. The ceiling is like floating clouds, adding a dynamic beauty and visual extension to the entire space.

The internal layout of the terminal has been carefully designed to enhance passenger convenience and smoothness. The new departure hall is equipped with fast and convenient self-service terminals and baggage check-in points, and more automated channels have been added to the immigration channel. These improvements greatly enhance the efficiency and convenience of handling procedures. In addition, the design also emphasizes the smoothness of transition, making the transition from one space to another more natural through continuous and organic line design, reducing passenger discomfort.

The landscape design of T2 highlights the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. The terminal is equipped with a 14 meter high digital waterfall called Wonderfall, as well as multiple natural themed leisure areas such as a digital sky garden and carpet designs that simulate natural landscapes. These designs not only enhance the visual effect, but also provide passengers with a relaxing environment. The spacious space and smooth curve design inside the terminal seem to wrap passengers in a peaceful cocoon, preparing them for their shopping and consumption journey in T2.

The expanded T2 also adds a large number of new retail and dining options, meeting the various needs of passengers. The newly introduced brands include local and international brands, offering a variety of choices from high-end catering to specialty coffee, such as SweeChoon Dim sum Kenangan Coffee and Paris Betaine. These new facilities and services not only enhance the overall image of the airport, but also provide more convenience and enjoyment for passengers.

In terms of sustainable development, T2 has adopted advanced refrigeration systems, which have increased refrigeration efficiency by 30% and significantly reduced energy consumption. Through this comprehensive renovation and expansion, the T2 terminal of Changi Airport not only improves processing capacity, but also provides passengers with a more comfortable, convenient, and diversified service experience. This project demonstrates the possibility of integrating modern airport design with natural elements, setting a new benchmark for future airport construction.
