Halu New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. is building a new gas station in Dongying, Shandong. Dongying is an important oil base in China and the birthplace of Halu. So Halu wants to build a "different" gas station here.
The Development History of Gas Stations
The form of gas stations was initially dominated by a single gas island; Later, with the development of multi-functional integration, a rich image of large roofs gradually formed, and later unified to the steel grid roof model due to branding development. The development process of gas stations is a compromise from diversification to commercialization. In this project, we are trying to regain the diversity of gas stations.

Strip texture and tube arch roof
The project is located in a rice field on the north side of Municipal Road. The soil in Dongying has a high salt and alkali content, and there are multiple water pipes in the field to discharge alkali and salt. The alternating arrangement of water belts and fields forms a strip like texture. Based on the texture of the site, we have adopted a continuous cylindrical arch roof in the design of the gas station. The section of the barrel arch adopts a standard semi-circular shape, which implies the intention of the barrel shape of the oil tank truck and the oil pipeline.
The design of continuous tube arches also enables modular replication of gas stations, and the number and length of tube arches can be increased or decreased according to the size of the gas station.

The visual experience of 'big far and small near'
The roof of the gas station is composed of five tube arches arranged in a row. The front of the roof presents a curve, while the sides are thick rectangular blocks. When the vehicle is in the distance, the driver mainly sees the side of the roof: a thick rectangular block with visual guidance. When the vehicle enters the gas station, the driver mainly sees the front of the roof: a light and thin curve, and the sense of volume disappears. The continuous cylindrical arch roof visually creates a "big far and small near" effect.
Spatial variation
Continuous cylindrical arch roof summer cover refueling area. When vehicles cross horizontally, the space rises and falls, like the roof undulating up and down, making people feel the rhythm of the space.
Sightseeing gas station
The standard Halu gas station includes three main functions: refueling, supermarket, and car washing. We have added a second floor landscape coffee space on this basis. The overhanging roof and french window provide a panoramic view of the surrounding paddy fields, creating a comfortable coffee leisure area. At the same time, it also provides meeting and exhibition space for Halu.
